Tri-State contributes to NRECA International Foundation

Hundreds of volunteers helped restore power in Haiti through NRECA International following the country’s devastating earthquake in January 2010.

Tri-State has become a proud supporter of the NRECA International Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to the mission of bringing electricity to the world, one village at a time.

Thanks to the contributions of NRECA members such as Tri-State, the wholly-owned subsidiary of NRECA has sent 23 volunteers overseas so far this year, with many more linemen ready to depart in the coming months for Haiti, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, South Sudan, Guatemala and the Philippines.

“In my travels around the world, I have seen first-hand how a cooperative business model could help the rural areas in these countries,” said Ken Anderson, Tri-State’s executive vice president and general manager. “The opportunity to share the success of the cooperative program can enable those who desire to achieve the same outcomes.”

Remote villages in Sudan now have electricity thanks to support from the NRECA International Foundation and co-op volunteers.

The NRECA International Foundation partners with NRECA International, Ltd. and member cooperatives to implement rural electrification projects worldwide. It provides support through its core of expert volunteers that assist with the construction and maintenance of electric distribution systems and in training of the local utility staff.

The foundation is supported solely through voluntary donations, with more than 300 cooperatives and many private organizations contributing time, money and materials to dozens of transmission projects in several countries.

Your own support of the foundation’s mission, either through a monetary donation or by volunteering your time and talent, is a great way to help celebrate the International Year of Cooperatives and bring life-changing power and hope to rural villages and developing nations.
