Colorado’s Touchstone Energy Co-ops team up to support St. Jude’s kids

On Nov. 8-9, Tri-State is once again teaming up with several of its Colorado Touchstone Energy member cooperatives — United Power, Mountain View Electric, Poudre Valley REA and Morgan County REA — to continue a nearly decade-long tradition of serving as presenting sponsors of the “Country Cares for St. Jude Kids” radiothon on 98.5 FM KYGO.

“This annual event, which was originally the brainchild of country music star Randy Owen, helps raise the necessary funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to do its vital work in the area of treating kids with various forms of cancer and other catastrophic diseases,” said Tri-State communications manager Jim Van Someren.

“Tri-State and our member co-ops have a long-standing partnership with St. Jude’s and KYGO. As the premier facility of its kind, St. Jude’s impacts the lives of children and their families in all 50 states in the U.S. as well as numerous countries around the world. The world-renown work it does is second to none and we’re proud to support such a worthwhile organization,” Van Someren said.

The annual fundraiser also is supported by some of country music’s biggest stars, including Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts and Blake Shelton – all of whom were included in 60-second Touchstone Energy commercials that have been running on KYGO for the past few weeks.

This year’s radiothon is airing live from KYGO’s Denver studios, as opposed to on location somewhere in the metro area (as has been the case in past years). Last year’s event was the most successful ever, when listeners called in pledges totalling $105,375 to help support the hospital’s mission.
